Public Information Office


Right to Information Act, 2005 (RTI Act-2005) empowers Indian citizens to get information from any 'public authority'. He has the right to seek such information from a public authority which is held by the public authority or which is held under its control.

Information is any material in any form. If includes records, documents, memos, e-mails, opinions, advices, press releases, circulars, orders, logbooks, contracts, reports, papers, samples, models, data material held in any electronic from. It also includes information relating to any private body which can be accessed by the public authority under any law for the time being in force.

The role of the Central Public Information Officer (CPIO) is to render reasonable assistance to the persons seeking information. As per provisions of the Act, a persons, who desires to obtain any information is required to make a request in writing or through electronic means in English or Hindi or in the official language of the area in which the application is made. If a person seeking information is not able to make such request in writing, the Central Public Information Officer Should assist the applicant in writing his application. CPIO accepts the RTI application along with the prescribed fee and provide the desired information within 30 days.
