Regulatory Toxicological Studies

Overview

Mammalian Toxicity Assessment:

  • In vitro Cyto-toxicity, Genotoxicity and Anti-Oxidant assays are routinely done with various cell lines.
  • Acute, Repeated and Sub-Chronic Toxicological studies are being conducted by oral and dermal routes following OECD guidelines for nano materials, pesticides, natural products etc with special reference to haematological, biochemical, histopathology and genotoxicity parameters.

Anti-rodent and Anti-Squirrel testing

  • Anti-rodent choice and no-choice studies in laboratory and in field conditions are conducted periodically on three species of wild rodents according to Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited/IICT protocols for Indian/Foreign industries as well as for Indian Defence Organizations. Similarly anti-squirrel facility for field choice and no-choice has been set up to test the drip irrigation pipes/wires/tubes etc. and provide the detail test reports for their safety.

Genetic toxicity screening of newer molecules/drugs/products

The compound that poses positive Genetic toxicity are mostly carcinogenic or mutagenic in nature. These studies are mostly used for rapid identification of hazardous compounds for New Chemical Entities (NCE) that causes DNA damage. Genetic toxicity tests are very low cost and highly reliable. Mostly damages are observed as gene mutation, structural chromosomal aberrations, recombination and hypo-hyperploidy. Most of these chromosomal changes may lead to cancer and if it is found in the germline cells leads to heritable damages to next generation through gamets. Hence, compounds should be tested for genotoxicity potential thoroughly before it expose to organism.
